Finding new NEMT clients presents an ongoing challenge in the NEMT world, so it's incredibly important to consistently search for new clients. Allowing your business to go stagnant as it relates to finding new clients puts you in a precarious position, as you are at risk of having unexpectedly reduced revenue and could lose drivers as a result.
One way to continuously source business is to foster relationships with local medical institutions. This allows your business name to be on their minds on an ongoing basis, so they can act as a referral service on your behalf. Offering marketing materials like pens and calendars help to keep your business name at the forefront, so consider delivering these in person. The medical providers are not who you are marketing to - you are marketing to the medical office staff, as those are the individuals who will be the connection between patients and your NEMT business.
Another recommendation is to keep an eye out for private clients. The vast majority of revenues do come from insurance claims. However, some insurance plans do not offer NEMT coverage, so private clients tend to utilize rideshare as an option. Marketing to private pay individuals and highlighting the safety and cleanliness aspect of NEMT over rideshare is a key way to gain repeat private pay business.
Finally, network with and maintain relationships with local NEMT brokers. Though these can and do result in some lower payouts than you would see for direct and private pay business, it does allow you to fill in the spaces and maximize your revenue. It's truly a numbers game, so be sure to balance out the lower ticket business with higher ticket business to meet your revenue goals.
